2011 Table King Bush Acorn Squash Plants

I will always remember the growing season of 2010 as the Year of the ATTACK SQUASH. The following picture displays my OUT OF CONTROL squash in 2010:

Out of control squash take over my 3 dogs morning sunning patio!

The above out of control squash was my teacher on saving seed from plants that are NOT an heirloom variety. Teachers arrive in all kind of sizes and shapes!

My brother had grown the tasty acorn squash in 2009 and I had saved seeds carrying the DELUSION that I could then grow my own in 2010... WRONG. The squash turned out to be a variety that resembled and tasted like zucchini .. and VERY prolific. I continue to have some frozen and have found out my dogs like cooked green squash and lentils. There was perhaps one plant that produced an acorn looking squash from those seeds I had saved.

This year in 2011, I spent a great deal of mental energy contemplating upon WHERE to grow squash so they are NOT near my tomato and pepper plants. The solution was to plant them in the back corner of my yard ... in what I term my Mulberry Tree corner that is destined to have creeping charlie as its ground cover.

CREEPING CHARLIE is termed a weed ... however, I can picture the women that brought this plant over to the 'new world' to insure their source of mint tea. In the early spring this part of my yard is covered with dainty purple flowers that serve to attract bees into my yard. Those little bees insure that my two cherry trees have been pollinated and provide fruit for me in July.

My Mulberry Tree Corner

I need to add the following picture ... of my Mulberry Tree corner when I bought my home in 2007 ... I have carried alot of bricks and dug alot of holes and planted alot of plants since my backyard was just a vision in my mind.
